Lowell, Wellesley Dominate At Clipper Relays


Two teams predicted to be among the top squads this season in their respective divisions flexed their muscles at the 18th annual Clipper Relays on Saturday.

Familiar Division 1 rivals Lowell and Wellesley dominated the boys' race. Lowell captured the team title in the 3x2 Mile event with a combined time of 29 minutes, 47 seconds for the six miles. The Red Raiders also took runner-up honors and fifth overall with times of 30:29 and 30:51, respectively. Wellesley, the defending Div. 1 state champions, broke up Lowell's party by taking second (30:36) and third (30:39) overall. The race attracted 219 teams.

In the girls' race, Wellesley took top honors with a time of 35:47. Tewksbury finished second and third with times of 36:02 and 36:08, respectively. Exeter, NH, was fourth overall at 36:25. Lexington placed fifth with a 37:06 clocking. A total of 139 teams competed.
