Andrew Mah, Newton North
The Tiger standout had a solid cross-country season last fall, winning the Division 1 race at the Coaches Invitational, taking third at the Eastern State Championships and placing tenth overall at the All State Meet. From there, Mah's junior season simply took off on the track oval. He specialized in the long distances, several times breaking 9:20 for two miles, including an indoor best of 9:13 and 9:15 on the outdoor surface. He also was the New England 3,200m champion where he was timed in 9:10. We're guessing Mah will improve significantly on his PR of 15:39 for the 5K distance, which was done at the Wrentham Developmental Center course, site of this year's All State Meet. Right now, it appears then runner to beat in that is Arlington's Ryan Oosting, who won the New Balance National crown this past June. Mah certainly has potential to challenge the soon-to-be junior.
