Massachusetts Memorable Outdoor T&F Moments: Ryan Oosting, 5K, New Balance Nationals

During the early part of the summer, MileSplit MA will feature what we consider the best performances of the outdoor track & field season. This was an arduous task to undertake as there were an abundance of fine efforts turned in by our Bay Staters throughout this spring campaign. Without further adieu...

Ryan Oosting

5,000-meter run, New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championships

The Arlington High sophomore certainly made a name for himself this season. He was among the country's top tenth-graders in the distance events, proving unbeatable against his state rivals in the mile and two mile, while posting national-caliber times. Oosting was a double-winner at the MIAA All State Meet where he posted a PR of 9:05.85 for the deuce and a near outdoor best of 4:14.44 for the four-lapper. Oosting also clocked a PB of 1:57.43 for 800m at the Eastern Division 3 Championships, shortly after winning the mile with a 4:18.21 clocking. Pretty impressive stuff.

The Arlington standout capped off his outstanding sophomore campaign with a performance that we rank with the best this outdoor season. Oosting became the third straight New Englander to win the 5K crown at the NBNO meet with a spectacular time of 14:36.13. That a time that ranks No. 12 all time in New England and is the fastest time ever recorded by a sophomore in the region.
