Seven Events To Watch At Coaches Invitational

Boys' 100m, 200m

We decided to group these two events together for the simple reason it's the same individuals that will provide the excitement this weekend.

The 100m dash features Milton's outstanding sophomore Smith Charles, who owns the top seed of 10.60. Charles, who is the defending state titlist in this race, will certainly not have it easy. He matches against his old nemeses from indoor, Northampton's Nikolas Smith (10.76) and Brighton's Ricky Fancois (10.66). With these three on the line, who are more than likely advancing to the finals, we're expecting a time in the mid 10-second range.  The meet record is a hand-held 10.3 by Scott Kimble from Bridgewater-Raynham in 1998. That might seem out of reach, but plan on this race potentially being determined by a lean at the finish line. The gifted trio will be back at it in the 200m, a race that Smith would be considered the favorite. He was the state 300m champion and has a fast seed time of 21.32. Ten other sprinters in the field have a listed seed time of 22.5 or faster, including Charles (22.0), Newton North's Jordan Greene (22.0) and Francois (22.19). Keep an eye on the meet record here, which is a hand-held 21.5.
