Appearing to be on cruise control from the times the smoke cleared the starter's gun, Leya Salis of Bedford (NH) dominated the 1,000-meter run against a very talented field. Salis won by more than four seconds with a new meet record of 2:48.25. Her winning time, which ranks No. 4 in the country, broke the 2016 mark of 2:49.29 by former Classical (RI) star Maddy Berkson. Finishing second behind Salis was 2:13 half-miler Emily Philippides of Greenwich (CT), who was timed in 2:52.56. In all, 11 runners cracked three minutes in the race!
