Burba Blazes To Nation Best For 600m!


One of the classic showdowns for the All State Meet next month is sure to involve 600-meter specialist Theo Burba of Newton North and Rodney Agyare-May of Burncast two of the best in the country.

Saturday at the Large School section of the MSTCA Coaches Invitational, Burba further gave indication of that sure-to-be epic battle. 

The Newton North sophomore clocked the nations fastest time for the three-lapper with a winning 1 minutes, 21.02 clocking. Burba beat a competitive field that featured seven runners under 1:25. Finishing second was Aidan Etheridge-Faucault of Amherst-Pelham (1:22.18) and Mansfield's Mike Shannon (1:22.66).

In the girls' 600m, Acton-Boxborough's Samantha Friborg won with a nation No. 6 of 1:33.97, nearly three seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Newton North established a meet record in the boys' 4x200m relay with the quartet of Seanross McClinchy, Jordan Greene, Fred Greene and Isaiah Bowden combining for a time of 1:30.29. That clocking breaks the 2012 mark of 1:31.33 by Chelmsford.

There was a nail-biter in the boys' 4x400m relay with  Catholic Memorial edging Newton North with a fast 3:25.77 (US #24) clocking, Newton North finished at 3:25.84 (US #26).

Newton North's Andrew Mah ran the country's second fastest time for two miles of 9:17.62. Tristan Shelgren of St. John's was second at 9:25.10.
