The 8th Annual Martha's Vineyard Invitational took place Saturday on the island. The meet was the largest in its history as teams from Mass, Ct, and Rhode Island made the Ferry Trip across from the Cape.
In the boys race the individual title went to Plymouth North junior Nick Mcnamee (16:22) as he had a nine second victory over Joe Gill from Coyle Cassidy.
"I stuck with the lead pack for the first stages of the race and got to a comfortable pace, and after about two miles, when the pack began to separate, I focused on the leader. Started to really make a move with about a half mile to go to solidify a lead, and from there it was just about finishing stronger than the field." said Mcnamee after his winning effort.
Barrington High School won the Boys Race as they place four runners in the top fifteen as they scored 61 Points. Coyle Cassidy, the MIAA Division 6 runner-up from 2015, finished 2nd place with 84 points. The Harbormen from Hingham had 98 points capturing the 3rd place.

Plymouth North also had a very strong showing in the girls race as they finished in the top two spots. Senior Sam Curtin won the race in 19:06, followed by her teammate Katie Fisher (19:16).
"Racing on the Vineyard always feels rewarding because you finally get to see how far your summer running has brought you. All I wanted was a smart race and an honest time. This season is all about my team and making sure I do everything I can to get us as far as we can go." said Curtin
Plymouth North scored 100 points and finished second as a team behind Guilford, Ct.
"We're happy with where we are. I'm very pleased with how the kids raced. We've still got a long way to go" said long time Coach John Laverty.
