Live Blog at New Balance Grand Prix!

We're underway at the always exciting New Balance Grand Prix at the Reggie Lewis Center. Follow along with the MileSplit Massachusetts crew as we take you through todays meet! 


3:20PM: The Girl Junior Mile is on the starting line and we have Sarah Armstrong (Needham), Margie Cullen (Neehdam), and Sarah Edwards (Bellingham) representing Massachusetts!


... Mass. trio all tucked in at the back as they come through the first quarter just around 70.x 

... Cullen and Armstrong together at 2:25 for the half. Edwards is a tick behind them

At the bell, Cullen is in 3rd making a bid for the leaders!

Unofficial Results for Girls Jr. Mile:

3:25PM: A lot of MA teams going after it in the Boy's SMR...

..Liam Sullivan (Northampton) hands off in first in the Boys SMR

...Needham Rockets and Northampton are our leaders in the Boys SMR at the bell!

..It was a thrilling finish, but the Northampton Boys pull off the victory in the SMR!

3:35pm

Norton, Marlborough, Concord-Carlisle, and Amherst Girls all underway in the SMR

Boys Junior Mile:

We have strong quartet of MA Boys in the Junior Mile: Viraj Deokar (Middlesex School), AJ Ernst (Marblehead,MA), Tom Ratcliffe (Concord-Carlisle), Matt D'Anieri (Wellesley HS)...

Gun is off and we are underway...

Very bunched in the first quarter, as the field comes through in 64.5..

Tom Ratcliffe looks smooth as he takes the lead of the race...

Ratcliffe hits the half 2:05.. 

With three to go, we have Ratcliffe and Tooker 1-2..

Ratcliffe throws down hard at the bell!

Ratcliffe comes up just short of victory and takes 2nd in 4:09.54 (Unofficial)..

Men's 1000m:

We will have a competitive Men's 1000m taking to the track and cheering extra loud for New England native, Andrew Wheating ( Kimball Union Academy, VT)...

We are off in the Men's 1000m!

Wheating sitting 3rd as field hits first 200m in 26.4..

Andrew Wheating takes the W in 2:18.68!

MBTA Women's 60m Dash:

They're in the blocks and you can hear a pin drop..

English Gardner is your 60m Dash winner in 7.15! 

Women's 300m:

A lot of talented ladies settling into the blocks for the 300m... 

Nastasha Hastings blazes to victory and sets a new AR with her 36.25 performance!

Men's 3000m:

Men's 3K is on the line and the pre-race favorite has to be Isaiah Koech (Kenya)..

Koech, Lalang, and Robinson hit the opening half in 2:03...

First kilometer is 2:34.37...

At the 2k in 5:12, Gebremeskel leads with Robinson, Lalang, and Campbell close in tow...

Bell lap and Gebremeskel and Robinson are 1-2!

Dejen Gebremeskel win's the 3k in 7:42.94

Women's 3000m:

A stacked field of talented distance runners step onto the track for the women's 3,000. Meseret Defar (ETH) will be the heavy favorite, but we will be cheering loud for Abbey D'Agostino (Masconomet HS).

Women's 3k is underway and we see Abbey sitting comfortably in 4th / 5th... Defar is leading and right behind the pacers..

Defar well out in the lead and hits opening quarter in 64.8...Dags is leader of chase pack and hit 400m in about 68...

We have to races going on.. Defar hits 1st K in 2:51...Abbey Dag's still leading chase pack and comes through first kilometer in 3:08..

Pacer has stepped off and it's all Defar after the mile...Abbey still up front of 2nd grouping..

Defar at the 2k is 5:43 and is not letting up! 

Abbey Dags brings the 2nd group through 2k in 6:03-04..

400m to go and Defar is at 7:25...Abbey is still fighting and leading that 2nd pack! 

Defar crushed the race and walks away with a huge victory and world leading time of 8:30.83! Masconomet HS Alum, Abbey D'Agostino takes 2nd in 8:56.77. 

Men's Mile: 

The always favorite, Men's Mile will be going off shortly and the hands down favorite has to be Nick Willis of New Zealand...

Men's Mile is off and surprise late entry, Coby Horowitz (Nashoba HS alum) is also racing...

Pacer brings the mile field through opening quarter in 56.9!

At the half mile, leaders hit it in 1:55.9! Excellent job the rabbit!

It's going to be a battle between Bethwell Birgen (KEN) and Nick Willis (NZL) 2:57 at 1200m!

Nick Willis is your winner with a new world leading time of 3:53.27! 

Women's 1500m

Our final race of the night is quality race with the likes of Kate Grace, Alex Efraimson, Cory Mcgee, Brenda Martinez, and Treniere Moser.

We are underway in the women's 1500m...

Opening quarter of 62.6! 

Two laps to go and it is Seyaum and Martinez...

Dawitt Seyaum is your Girls 1500m winner in 4:01.86! World #1 Time!
