MIAA Boys All State Meet: Lowell Repeats, D'Anieri Over Rocha

Boys Division 1

The Boys Division 1 race at Stanley Park turned out to be a battle of the two Eastern Mass Champions from last week in Wrentham.  All eyes were on Peabody's Marcelo Rocha as they made their way into the woods for a two mile loop. When they reappeared on the way out of the woods, it was Thomas D'Anieri of Wellesley with a more than comfortable enough lead to hold onto to win his first All State title.  D'Anieri ran the fastest boys time of the day running clocking 15:!6. Marcelo Rocha (15:27) held onto to second place, Liam Sullivan (3rd-15:29), Zachary Manickas-Hill (4th-15:30) , and Sam Stubbs (5th-15:33) rounded out the top five.

In the highly anticipated match up between Lowell and Saint John's Shrewsbury for the team title, the boys from Lowell dominated from start to finish to capture their second straight All State Championship. They have won 3 of the last four titles (2015, 2014, and 2012) and may have enough depth to roll on for a few more years. The final team scores were 1. Lowell 64, 2. St John's (S) 135, 3. Cambridge 137 4. Lexington 147 and 5th was Wellesley with 170 points.
