MV Invitational: Long Leads Feehan to Victory

The Martha's Vineyard Invitational kicked off the X-C season's first 5K race this past weekend out on the island off the coast of Cape Cod. The defending D3 Champions from Bishop Feehan dominated the competition placing three runners in the top five. Abigail Long led the Shamrock's to victory with a pretty fast early season time, clocking in at 18:19.

"Abigail is your quintessential cross country runner. She is dedicated, hard working, and unassuming" said Feehan Coach Bob L'Homme.

Samantha Coletti (18:56) of Whitman Hanson was a distant second place finishing ahead of Feehan's Megan Carmody (3rd-19:40) and Delaney Lynch (4th-19:50). Jordan Callahan and Sam Curtin of Plymouth North grabbed fifth and sixth place respectively. Bishop Feehan finished with 45 points with Hingham Harbormen grabbing second place with 96 points.

"It's been a tough start with the heat and humidity. We have a hard working dedicated group of young women working on "carrying on the tradition" explained Coach L'Homme.

The Boys race showcased the team from Barrington, Rhode Island as they placed four runners in the top seven places to easily walk away with the victory. Bishop Feehan Senior Andrew Pearl (16:20) scored a 15 second victory over Will Connelly of Barrington.

" Andrew worked very hard over the summer and has some very high goals. He is a great young man who is dedicated to the sport and loves to run" states the long time Bishop Feehan Coach Bob L'Homme

John Pappo of the Belmont Hill school was third in 16:42. Local favorite Aiveras Gedvilas of Marthas Vineyard finished fourth place at 16:48 just ahead of three Barrington runners Hayden Ivatts (16:48) , Grant Auber (16:56), and Eli Mitnick (16:58).

Barrington scored 41 points and the Bishop Feehan squad tallied up 99 points to captured second place.
