  • Hello fellow trackees !  First, I would like to thank Mr. Martin for giving me the opportunity to Blog about my and Ursuline’s 2014 spring track season. After that long, cold, brutal winter today was the day we were all waiting for. Our first outdoor meet!Since Ursuline has the dubious distinction of not having its own track, all of our spring league meets are held at NDA Hingham. When the last bell sounded at 2:20 Wednesday and 70 plus girls went running frantically through the halls to get ready to board the bus, you can imagine our pleasant surprise when we met outside. Our team is soooo big this spring; we won’t fit on a school bus! Thanks Mr. O’Connor for the coach bus! When we got down to Hingham we had a little extra motivation waiting for us. A surprise visitor from California was in town and he dropped in to say “Hi” and check in on our training. When we saw Coach Torres we were all very excited. As usual, the first meet of the year is always a bit hectic. Helping the younger girls get used to how the NDA meets run, trying new events, etc… All in all, it was a great day for Ursuline! 8 girls qualified in 7 different events for divisionals. A big shout out to our qualifying discus thrower #goAlex! Ursuline has a throwing coach this spring so we are all hopeful for big things to come. On to the Freshman/Sophmore Meet and the Pentathlon...

  • The Freshman/Sophmore meet was a huge success for Ursuline! 23 of our 7th thru 10th grade girls competed. Congratulations to our 4x400 team for qualifying as well as Alex and Aine for amazing throws in the discus and javelin!

  • Training over the past couple of weeks was a bit more hectic than usual because I was getting ready for the pentathlon. After I finished my regular workout, I would try to fit in an extra session of shot put, high jump, or high hurdles. It really gives you a greater appreciation for multi-event athletes and the training that they go through. This spring weather has been so crazy it makes it hard to predict what to pack. Right now my track bag has just about everything in it but the kitchen sink. One day we are practicing in shorts and t-shirts and the next day we are wearing gloves and Under Armor. Pentathlon day weather was a bit warm for this time of year. Trying to find shade at NDA was no easy task. The day started off great. I PR’d the 100 hurdles and got a very good long jump. I also PR’d in the shot put. High jump is definitely my achilles heel as far as pentathlon events go, but I managed to clear the bar! The 800 should have been my best event, but by the time mid-afternoon rolled around and the wind started to pick up, the back straight away at the NDA track was not too friendly.  So, I didn’t get the time that I was hoping for. All in all it was a great day. I won three of the five events and placed 3rd in the meet overall. I met some amazing, talented girls and had a very enjoyable day. Just think, I could have been home studying for my AP Chemistry Final, but I will take a day at the track anytime!  Talk to you
