Their efforts produced a catalog of landmark performances and for the first time ever, the state’s two most electrifying female distance runners will collide at the state spring track championships.
Hingham’s Julie McConville clocked a scalding 10:18.02 two-mile during the indoor campaign while legend-in-the-making Catarina Rocha of Peabody will move up from the mile, where she set a state meet record of 4:49.14 this winter, to defend her outdoor two-mile title.
Their showdown at the state meet at Westfield State later this season will be worth the price of admission. The pair of heavyweights will have a strong supporting cast in Abby McNulty of Bishop Feehan, Jordan O’Dea of Dennis-Yarmouth and Erin Dietz of Bedford.
