Hingham High School senior Julie McConville broke both the Massachusetts and New England indoor records for 5000 Meters last night in New York City. Her time of 16:40.6 placed her 3rd place in the highly competitive 5000 meter run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. McConville led the race early on until Michigan's Erin Finn took control. Finn, who set the National record of 16:19 at last years New Balance Indoor Nationals, had a huge lead throughout the race. McConville settled in with Wesley Frazier from North Carolina for most of the grueling 5k event . The leaders were running so fast that they lapped many of the runners causing a very confusing scene. The PA Announcer was encouraging the crowd to get behind Erin Finn on her final lap to break her own National record, but lost in the chaos was Wesley Frazier. The North Carolina senior slid by the arm raising Finn at the finish line causing a very bizarre finish. Both runners were under the National Record but the victory went to Wesley Frazier. McConville ended up finishing third place.
Weston's Matt Herzig ran 15:13 for a 10th place finish in the boys 5000 Meter run. Herzig's time is 5th All Time in Massachusetts history.
