A Look Back At The MSTCA Hall Of Fame Inductees Feb 03, 2014

Each and every year at the meet, the Mass. coaches welcome their newest members into the MSCTA Hall of Fame. Some past inductees have been former marathon great and Wayland graduate Alberto Salazar, now coach of the elite Nike Oregon Project, and the legendary Johnny Kelley, a two-time winner of the Boston Marathon, who made the historic footrace his annual ritual long after winning his last race back in 1945. At the Jan. 25 meet, longtime Bishop Feehan coach Bob L’Homme, chairman of the Hall of Fame committee, introduced 10 more inductees to a list that now features 77 members. Like previous years, the list is impressive, beginning with 1952 Plymouth High graduate Brooks T. Johnson.

More Elite Meet Coverage: Bolze In A Class By Himself ! Jan 29, 2014

Andrew Bolze stood inside the infield after his 300-meter race. Like most of the people inside the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, his eyes were clearly focused on the digital scoreboard on the back end of the track. Just minutes after winning his specialty at Saturday’s MSTCA Elite Meet, the Hingham High senior saw the numbers he was hoping to see in bright white lights, a new meet record and state mark of 34.19 seconds. With a strong start out of the blocks the record never appeared in doubt for Bolze, who won the race convincingly.  His time is nearly a half a second faster than his previous best of 34.64, set at a Patriot League meet on Dec. 18.  “I knew I had to go out hard,” said the Hingham standout. “I really wanted that state record. That was my goal.”

Boston College's Samuels Elite of the Elite Jan 27, 2014

The prestigious Coaches Elite Meet, which is widely regarded as the best competition of the indoor season along with the all-state meet, was once again loaded with strong performances and several records fell along the way. BC High's Jordan Samuels used the Coaches Elite Invitational as a launching pad for the second half of the indoor season and all that was left were vapor trails by the time he was done at the Reggie Lewis Center. The talented Samuels, was fast out of the blocks in the 55 hurdles and ran away with the event in a personal best of 7.50 that equaled the meet record. Just fifteen minutes later Samuel did his best long jumping of the season and owned the runway with a 22-0 effort.

MSTCA ELITE MEET: Live Photo Stream Jan 26, 2014

The biggest and best meet of the season has come to a conclusion, and Milesplitmass captured all the action. We saw several meets records as well as Andrew Bolze's amazing 300 Meter State Record performance. The previous record was actually established back in 1984 by my high school teammate Randy King. That was run well before we were running the metric distances in the state of Massachusetts. Congratulation's to Andre Bolze and maybe we may see a sub 34.0 in the weeks ahead by the Higham High School superstar.
