Central Massachusetts Division 1 Girls
With five of their top seven varsity runners returning, Wachusett Regional looks ready to defend its title. But look out for Shepherd Hill Regional among others teams that won't make it easy for the Mountaineers. Jamie Falla and younger sister Nailie Falla provide a string 1-2 punch for Wachusett. Jamie, a senior, was the individual champion last year and then placed fifth at the All State Finals. As a ninth-grader last fall, Bailie was third at the divisionals and then took 11th overall at All States. Senior Dominique Engle and junior Alison Peto were also contributing scorers, placing among the top 25 at the division meet. Shepherd Hill returns senior Gabriele Lawrence, sixth in 2016-17, and sophomore Emma Sullivan, who was the second best frosh at the divisionals behind Bailie Falla with a 14th place finish. Look for Algonquin Regional junior Tess Reyes to contend up front. She cracked 20 minutes at last year's division meet and finished fourth overall.
