Massachusetts Cross-Country Runners To Watch: Thomas Weiss, Wellesley High

Thomas Weiss, Wellesley High

The talented senior along with graduating teammate Benjamin Matejka guided the Raiders to the Division 1 title at last year's All State Meet by finishing 13th overall. Weiss was also a runner-up to Matejka at the Eastern Division 2 Championships, another meet in which Wellesley went home with the hardware.

Weiss will take over the leadership role for a Raider squad that has lost five of its varsity runners from 2016-17 to graduation. The Wellesley appears to have the qualifications to make an impact on his team and in the state.

In addition to his performances at the divisionals and All States, Weiss was fourth at the Frank Kelley Invitationals, finished seventh at the McIntyre Twilight Invitationals and was 29th in the Championship race of the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Championships. On the track, he clocked a best of 4:25 for the mile and 9:22 for two miles, the latter earning him a fifth-place finish at the Outdoor State Meet.

Weiss certainly displays the qualities to be among the upper-echelon of talent this season.
