Western Massachusetts Division X-C Previews

Western Massachusetts Division 2 Girls

Three-time defending champion Lenox Memorial should be favored to do it again this fall. The Millionaires lost their No. 1 runner and last year's individual titlist, Emma Jourdain, to graduation, but have their next five from the divisional meet all coming back. Freshmen Ellen Huth, senior Alice Najimy and junior Marion Huth were 6-7-8 at the divisionals. The younger Huth was timed in an impressive 19:45 at the meet as an eighth-grader. She also did 19:19 at the season-opening Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational. With a year of experience behind her, she certainly has potential to improve on her best substantially. Mohawk Trial Regional should also be included when talking about contenders. Last year's third-place finisher has the trio of freshman Jackie Wells, junior Meghan Davis and senior Lilly Wells coming back. This talented group was 2-3-4 at the divisionals last fall.In order to be competitive, Mohawk will have to rely on a few of its runners stepping up and filling those crucial fourth and fifth spots. There's also Mount Greylock with a young and upcoming squad that will feature several junior high and freshman and sophomore runners.
