A few of our local high school standouts have committed to their future college destinations.
Newburyport High's Jack Carleo signed his National Letter of Intent this past week to Providence College where he'll join former Clipper all-stater and older brother Jack Carleo. The younger Carleo has enjoyed a stellar senior campaign. This past fall, he captured the Division 2 cross-country title and clocked a personal best of 4 minutes, 13.17 seconds for the mile during the indoor season.
Also making commitments this past week were Tewksbury's Lauren Polimeno and Worcester Tech's Adja Sackor, who will both attend Jacksonville University in Florida. Polimeno is a versatile runner with a specialty in the 400-meter hurdles. Last year she was fourth at the All State Meet where she was timed in a personal best of 1:04.88. Sackor is a multiple state champion in the long and triple jumps. She captured her second straight crown in the long jump this past winter and earned All-American status at the New Balance Nationals where she placed sixth overall.
