Frank Kelley Highlights: Beverly's Curtin Steals The Show

In the Division 2 Girls Race, Emily Demarco of Ipswich and Stephanie Casaletto of Austin Prep. battled it out through 2 miles on the Wrentham Developmental Center Course. Casaletto Ran away with the race over the last mile to defend her title with time of 19:04. Sarah Oliver of Marblehead ended up overtaking Demarco to capture 2nd place in 19:12. Demarco finished 3rd in 19:24. The Old Rochester girls ran away with the team title with 71 points over runner up Westwood High School. ORR placed four girls in the top 20.


Jack Carleo of Newburyport ran a fast second mile to run away with the Division 2 Boys race. Carleo ran a personal best time on Wrentham clocking in at 16:21. His teammate Joe Molvar finished 2nd place in 16:29. Jack, the younger brother of last years state champion Nick Carleo, finished 5th place at last years Division 5 State Championship. Marblehead took home the team title even without defending Champion Andrew Ernst. The Magicians still had plenty of depth to win with 71 points over runner up Wakefield high School (100 points). Ernst was on a College visit.


Marcelo Rocha of Peabody made an early season statement they he is ready for a big year, as he crushed the D1 Boys field early in the race. Rocha's time was only only a second of his his fastest time from 2014. Thomas D'Anieri of Wellesley closed the gap in the end on Rocha to finish second place in 15:41. Cambridge placed 4 in the top twelve to take home the team title with 41 points. Wellesley High School finished five in the top 20 to finish a close second place with 48 points.


Julia Curtin of Beverly made a huge statement yesterday as she became the fastest 5k runner in Massachusetts. The sophomore ran away from a very elite field clocking in at 17:45. Her previous fastest time was 19:19. The race featured many of the top D1 runners, but nobody could match the early season performance of the sophomore from Beverly. Rebecca Grusby of Newton South would capture 2nd place in 18:26. The team title went to Billerica High School as they finished four in the Top 20.
