Informative course on Treating and Training Injured Distance Runners on May 9

Foundation Performance president and co-founder Michael Silva MS, PT, CSCS along with Perform Better Functional Training Institute will be offering a course on Treating and Training the Injured Distance Runner. The course will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Perform Better's West Warwick location on 1600 Division Street. The registration fee is $119.

According to their website, "This course will prepare the health/fitness professional and physical therapists to learn more about running mechanics, running injuries, and addressing the mobility and strength needs of the runner to allow them to be a resource to these athletes. Learn how to assess the athlete, analyze their stride, and implement an action plan."

Silva, a physical therapist, exercise physiologist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist, will be the key presenter for the course. For additional information and to register, click here.

8:30 - Introduction, syllabus, plan for the day

8:45 - Anatomy and Gait Cycle Review

9:45 - Epidemiology of running injuries, evidence, stats. The Who, What, When, Why, Where of running injuries

10:15 - Break

10:30 - Footwear/barefoot/orthotics

11:00 - Screening the Runner/Gait Analysis (with lab)

12 p.m. - Lunch (on your own)

1:00 - Diagnosing & Treating Running Injuries (with lab).

Exercises/manual techniques

Spine, Pelvis, Hip, Knee, Lower leg, Foot/Ankle

2:30 - Return to Runner/Cross-Training

3:00 - Prevention/Educating the runner (with lab)

3:45 - Test and Q&A.
