The Resurgence Of The Mile: A Look At Upcoming US Open/Millrose/NBGP Fields

New  York NY - The mile is a classic distance.  About 8 meters longer than the now standard 1600m, the mile recently has seen a movement encouraging its' return.  There is even a website dedicated to this very thing, petitioning high school sports to return to the classic distance.  And if there ever was any indication that the mile was still alive, the fields for the mile at the upcoming US Open, New Balance Grand Prix, and Millrose would be it.  Check out below to see if your favorite made the cut.

Also be sure to check us out on facebook at www.facebook.com/milesplitny and on twitter @MileSplitNY , as we will be live tweeting the event.

To solidify the Mile as the ultimate distance, New Balance invited several major news outlets to an event at the Armory last week, announcing the release of a brand new documentary on the unique distance.  The British Miler would follow 7 of Britains top milers, as they train and compete to make the Olympic team in 2012.  You can read more about the documentary, as well as the runners, many of whom made up the field with which Cheserek ran against saturday at New Balance, at thebritishmiler.com .  In the meantime, you can check out the trailer below.
