Here is a look at The Republican’s choice for first-team All-Scholastic boys cross country for the Fall 2011 season

DIVISION I

MIKE ANDRE, Agawam
Senior finished 14th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:41; named Brownies' Most Valuable Player two straight seasons; also earned awards for "best teammate" and "most determined," placed 12th at PVIAC race; finished 14th at state meet at Boston's Franklin Park.

JACOB BELLOWS, Westfield
Senior finished 20th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:00; placed 17th at PVIAC race in 16:15; was 42nd at state meet in 16:48; won Western Mass. 2-mile in 2010; national honor society, eagle scout.

SAM COATES-FINKE, Northampton
Senior took third in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:14; finished fourth at PVIAC race in 15:44.

CAMERON COOK, Renaissance School
Junior finished 16th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:47; finished first in all of his regular season meets; ran personal best of 16:14 to place 16th at PVIAC race; runs track for Sci-Tech; national honor society member; member of Springfield Harriers.

JESSE COULL, Amherst
Senior finished fifth in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:15; placed eighth at PVIAC race in 15:54; best race was at Ludlow; was third in New England gymnastics level 6 in 2006; was 16th in state diving in 2011; honor roll; plans to pursue an engineering degree.

BLAKE CROTEAU, Westfield
Junior finished second in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:13; placed second at PVIAC race in 15:40; awarded Bombers' Most Valuable Player the past two seasons; was 22nd at state meet in Boston; ran a 9:46.18 2-mile in outdoor track; avid cyclist, high honors; had outstanding regular season.

BRIAN CROWLEY, Ludlow
Junior finished seventh in Western Massachusetts race; ran 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:17; helped Lions win Western Massachusetts Division I title in 2009; ran a 16:12 at Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. last fall; state qualifier in 2-mile and 4 x 800 in track; children's track coach for Boys & Girls Club; national honor society.

DAN CROWLEY, Ludlow
Senior won his first Western Massachusetts individual championship; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:01; was the first Western Mass. Division I runner to finish at the state meet; made All-State Academic team; national honor society; holds school course reord of 16:14; going to Amherst College.

EUGENE DE LA ROSA, Holyoke
Senior finished 12th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:36; placed 22nd at PVIAC meet in 16:30; member of Holyoke's state qualifying team in 2010.

TIM DOSTIE, Westfield
Junior finished eighth in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:18 despite running the last 400 meters without his left shoe; placed 14th at PVIAC race; high honors student everty term and ran a sub-5-minute mile; national honor society.

RHYS DUQUETTE, Holyoke
Junior finished 11th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:33; secured seventh at PVIAC meet in 15:54; had strong regular season despite missing several weeks due to injury, but came back strong.

SAM FISHER, Minnechaug
Junior finished 19th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:58; team captain; named Falcons Most Valuable Player; qualified for state meet; personal best for 5K race came this season at 16:32; runs mile in both indoor and outdoor track; honor roll.

BEN GAGNE-MAYNARD, Longmeadow
Senior finished fourth in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:14; placed ninth at PVIAC race in 15:55; was 35th at state meet at Boston's Franklin Park in 16:44; team captain; captain of indoor track team; ultimate frisbee team captain; national honor society, first honors, honors band.

CODY HODGINS, Holyoke
Senior finished 36th in Western Massachusetts race despite running the race with the flu; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:28; won the Ted Dutkiewicz Invitational in 15:42; took third at PVIAC in 15:43; secured sixth at Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. in 16:17; was fourth at Catholic Memorial race in 16:45.

MATT JACOBSON, Westfield
Junior secured sixth in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:16; placed 13th at PVIAC race in 16:09; was 47th at state meet in Boston in 16:52; state qualifier in swimming; honor roll; maximum honor every term in high school.

STEVEN KALT, Amherst
Senior finished 15th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:45; best race came at PVIAC meet when he finished 15th with a time of 16:13; qualified for junior championships for nordic skiing in 2009; runs track; honor roll; high honor roll.

RYAN MATHERS, Amherst
Senior finished 13th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:40; placed 20th at PVIAC in 16:30, which was his best race of the season; honor roll; plans to pursue a degree in business.

TIM SHEA, West Springfield
Senior finished 18th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:51; holds the school record for a 5K with 16:44 and course record at Clark Field's 2.89-mile course in 16:08; member of three straight Valley League championship teams; placed 11th at PVIAC race with a 5K personal best of 16:04.

ALEXANDER SULLIVAN, Northampton
Senior finished 17th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:50; placed 10th at PVIAC race in 16:01; helped Blue Devils win their first Division I cross country Western Massachusetts title in 2010.

JAMES TRAESTER, Amherst
Senior finished 10th in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:32; placed sixth at PVIAc race in 15:53; was 38th at Brown Invitational in 16:24; placed 8tth at Great American Cross County Festival in Cary, N.C. in 16:19, honor roll, Dartmouth Book Award; plays baseball and indoor track.

DYLAN WIGHT, Amherst
Senior finished ninth in Western Massachusetts race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:20; finished fifth at PVIAC race in 15:47; plays ultimate frisbee; honor roll; accepted to Northeastern University where he will major in engineering.

DIVISION II

EVAN ABELSON, Greenfield
Senior capped a strong regular season by finishing sevnth at the Western Massa´chusetts Division II race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:06; earned five varsity letters in cross country; placed 24th at PVIAC race in 16:34; vice president of na´tional honor society; class representative of student council, participates in track.

ANGELO AUCELLA, Cathedral
 Junior helped the Panthers qualify for the state meet; finished 14th; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:28, which he regarded as his best race this season; placed 33rd at PVIAC race in 16:53.

MARCUS AUCOIN, Greenfield
 Senior finished ninth; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:12; placed 26th at PVIAC race in 16:42; earned six varsity letters in cross country; member of select and concert choruses, Western Massachusets All-Districts Chorus (2011-2010); participates in track.

IAN BARBER, Hampshire
 Senior capped strong regular season by placing 20th; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:42; placed 53rd at PVIAC race in 17:25; team captain; Red Raiders' Most Valuable Player; runs tracks; ran Mass Dash; fourth year as a stuko member; academic society member; has given more than 50 hours to community service.

SAM BURKE, Cathedral
Senior finished outstanding regular season by taking third at sectonal race to help Panthers reach the state meet; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:30; was 18th at PVIAC race in 16:23; had strong regular season, often running neck-and-neck with teammate Mark Hegarty; plays hockey.

BILLY BRUNTON, Cathedral
Sophmore part of the Panthers squad that qualified for the state meet; finished 26th; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:04; placed 35th at PVIAC in 16:56; plays lacrosse; put in community service for tornado relief

TOMMY BRUNTON Cathedral
Senior was part of a strong top three that helped the Panthers qualify for the state meet; finished eighth; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:06; placed 41st at PVIAC race in 17:03; national honor society; Respect for Life Club; honor roll; will attend Isenberg School of Business at the University of Massachusetts.

ANDREW FOSTER, Monson
 Junior ran strong during the regular season; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:43; placed 59th at PVIAC race in 17:39.

DOMINIC GRAY, Putnam
Senior formed a solid one-two punch with Freddy Rivera; finished 24th; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:00; placed 82nd at PVIAC race in 18:03; was named Beavers most improved runner; honor roll; assistant youth basketball coach.

MARK HEGARTY, Cathedral
Senior finished outstanding regular season and career by helping the Panthers reach the state meet; finished fourth; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 17:30; won the Western Mass. Division II individual title as a sophomore; won the PVIAC race in 15:33; set Longmeadow course record, runs track.

MATTHEW MAHAN, Palmer
 Up and coming sophomore took 33rd at sectional race; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:20; placed 68th at PVIAC race in 17:46.

STEVE O'NEILL, Monson
 Junior was 30th; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:13 following a good regular season; placed 80th at PVIAC race in 18:02.

SAM POWELL, Holyoke Catholic
No. 1 runner for the Gaels finished 12th at Western Mass.; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:21; placed 31st at PVIAC race in 16:49.

FREDDY RIVERA, Putnam
Senior completed outstanding career and regular season for the Beavers; finished 11th at Western Mass.; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:21; placed 38th at PVIAC race in 16:57; 3-time champion of Springfield Mayor's Cup race at Forest Park; best time in a 5K was 17:02; works in a community basketball program.

TIM SHANNON, Palmer 
Senior had strong regular season for the Panthers; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 19:26 to finish 35th in Western Mass.; best race came in home meet against Pioneer Valley; had strong regular season; finished 72nd at PVIAC race in 17:50; plans to enter the service following graduation.

COLEN STACK, Greenfield
Junior was part of Greenfield terrific trio with Evan Abelson and Marcus Aucoin; placed 18th at Western Mass.; covered the 3.1-mile course at Northfield Mountain in 18:39; finished 37th at PVIAC race in 16:57; earned three varsity letters in cross country; participates in both indoor and outdoor track; will captain the Green Wave next season.
