Garret Mountain wasn't finished with Sectional action after the North 1 meet on Saturday. Non-Public North schools ventured to Woodland Park for their opportunity to race for a title on Sunday and 

Girls Non-Public B

St. Dominic Academy senior Kayla Sullivan put a cap on a great cross country season and career by winning the Non-Public B North title and leading her team to a championship as well.

Sullivan took the race by a margin of 33 seconds at 20:30 and that one card finish would prove to be essential in a tight points race with Villa Walsh Academy. In what was a three team scoring battle SDA took the win with 31 points to Villa Walsh's 39, Newark Academy taking third with 64. The squad ran in five meets this season and won every meet including Jersey City and Hudson County Championships.

SDA's top five averaged 22:05 with a 2:56 split. Behind Sullivan's win: Milani Bethel fourth at 21:43, Charlotte Hennessey sixth 22:04, Caroline O'Donnell ninth 22:43, and Madison Cortes their fifth scorer in 11th 23:26. Tea Baramidze and Lainey Nguyen their sixth and seventh in 12th and 13th.

Second place Villa Walsh was led by Christina Cucolo running third with a time of 21:43, sophomore Victoria Wong also running top five in the race with a fifth place 21:54. Wong is the top returner for 2021 from the Non-Public B race.

Second individually was senior Kavya Nivarthy of Newark Academy clocked at 21:03.

Boys Non-Public B

Junior Andy Nagpal won his first race of the season at Non-Public B North Sectionals, leading a perfect score run by his Newark Academy squad mates.

Nagpal crossed the line victorious with a time of 17:20 and had the pleasure of watching the next four finishing positions all wearing the Newark Academy uniform as well. Jack Ryan 17:38, Mathew Malloy 17:53, Luka Opacic Rodrigues 18:08, and Maximillian Gorbaty 18:15 made up second through fifth bringing the team to 15 points and a 17:50 average. 

This was a strong season for Newark Academy, second at the North Jersey Finale behind Ridgewood leading into Sectionals. 

Aidan Szilagyi of Montclair Kimberley Academy was the first non-Newark Academy athlete to finish running sixth at 18:31. Morris Catholic was second as a team with 57 points, MKA third at 70.

Girls Non-Public A

Kent Place sophomore Lindsay Hausman followed up strong finishes at tough Union County and Union County Conference meets with a Non-Public A North title and Garret Mountain PR of 18:49.

Of the top eight finishers in this race seven of them will return next year and most others for a few years to come. There were four sophomores and two freshmen running up front, the two freshmen were Kate Hurst of Academy of The Holy Angels in third at 19:48 and Olivia Murray of Pingry in fifth 20:43.

Also in the top five was Leanna Johnston of Immaculate Heart Academy running second at 19:30 and Pingry senior Alina Irvine 20:22. 

Johnston's second place run started a championship scoring effort by Immaculate Heart Academy with 38 points and a 20:56 average. It was a tight battle with Pingry for a bit who finished second at 46 points. 

Boys Non-Public A

St. Peter's Prep came through for a solid cap on the season to win Non-Public A North, running the quickest average of the weekend at Garret with a 17:06. They score of 29 overpowered second place Seton Hall Prep at 61 and third place Delbarton with 97. 

St. Peter's Prep got on the board with Rodolfo Sanchez, 16:47, and Edwin Klanke, 16:55, running second and third. Ethan Blackwelder fifth at 17:02, Alex Schimmel eighth 17:20, and Jack Glynn 11th 17:28 made up the rest of their top five. Jack Sipperly and Patrick McCabe cleaning up as sixth and seventh runners in 21st and 22nd. 

The overall race win went to Seton Hall Prep senior Kevin Harvey running 16:16 well ahead of the field. That run ranks him the fourth fastest runner at Garret Mountain in 2020, one of just five athletes to run under 16:20. 

Also in the top five was senior Henry Wood of Pingry clocked at 17:00.
