Salute to Seniors: Christine Toy (Bonny Eagle HS)

Name: Christine Toy

School: Bonny Eagle High School

What was your most memorable race/meet?

There have been so many, the most memorable was nationals last year. It was such a cool experience to be running there with the 4x800 despite the 95 degree weather.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My own teammates! It is rare to have so many talented athletes on the same team!

What was your greatest accomplishment?

This past outdoor season was by far my best and most consistent season. I took time to really study training and running this winter. Coming into the spring I trusted my coaches training. Good results followed.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?

I have had a tremendous number of injuries and other set backs, That being said I wouldn't change anything. Each time something happens you learn a little bit more about your training and what works and what doesn't. Obviously it sucks but in the long run you are bound to be smarter and stronger runner.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

In my underclassmen years I had a hard time balancing a diet and running. That was a horrendous experience. To younger athletes, you need to fuel your body correctly and eat more than you burn.

What will you miss the most?

The running community, Maine truly does have a special community. I hope to keep in touch with many runners in the upcoming years!

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Be coachable, understand your training, and run because You love to run regardless of the result! I recommend Deena Kastor's "Let Your Mind Run" to all runners. It was an awesome read, and really changed my perspective on training!

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Coach Burleson has taught me the value of trust and the importance of being coachable. It truly changed the runner I was and prepared me for what is next to come,Thank you coach!

What are your college plans?

I committed to Saint Anselm College and will be running Cross Country along with some outdoor track! I am truly excited to turn completely to distance running, leaving the 1600 and 3200 behind!

Who would you like to say thank you to?

All of my coaches! (There have been many over the past four years.) for years of encouragement and lessons! I'd also like to thank my parents for never over stepping while being continuously supportive and letting me choose my own path with running and in life.
