Previewing the MIAA All-State Championships

Girls Sprints and Hurdles

100m

Meet Record: 11.8     Last Year's Winner:  Chloe Alfieri (Bromfield School) 12.09

Nauset sophomore Monique Malcolm has set herself up a little ways ahead of the rest of the seeded field with a 12.08 run at MIAA E Div. 3 last weekend, which is ranked second in the state this year. But there is some experienced sprinters behind her as last year's 4th place finisher Jayda Dillon (Milton) at 12.16 and 3rd place runner Abigail Gerdes (Natick) at 12.35 could be on the finals starting line. Also close in the hunt are Caroline Schissel ( Amesbury) at 12.31, Framingham's Grace Poku and North Andover's Trinity Tapper. Springfield's Kyla Hill is further back, but she was 2nd in last year's MIAA.

200m

Meet Record: 24.43     Last Year's Winner:  Chloe Alfieri (Bromfield School) 24.47

Last year's 4th place finisher Anna Jordahl-Henry (Wellesley) surged well out in front of the pack vying for the 200m title when she put down a 24.42 at MIAA Div. 1, which is a tad in front of the MIAA All-State meet record. Nauset's 100m favorite Monique Malcolm is the closest competition after taking the MIAA E Div. 3 at 24.73. Lowell's Jordan Lamarre and Milton's Jayda Dillon are also under 25.00 after 2nds behind the two frontrunners at Divisionals.

400m

Meet Record: 54.51    Last Year's Winner:  Abby Comella (Wellesley) 54.96

Beverley's India Ingemi ran the 2nd best state time this year of 56.49 at MIAA E Div. 2 and is the seeded favorite for this year's title after finishing 2nd last year. Old Rochester's Meg Hughes and Shepherd Hill's Madison Marsh were 5th and 3rd respectively at last year's meet, and they are coming off wins in the Div. 4 and Div. 1 meets. Another very non-dark horse candidate is reigning champ Abby Comella of Wellesley who breezed to the MIAA Div. 1 win in 57.84 and who scorched a 56.50 three weeks ago at the Loucks Invite (nonqualifying) as a warm-up for a repeat at the MIAA All-State.

100m Hurdles

Meet Record: 14.25     Last Year's Winner:  Anoush Krafian (Belmont) 14.26

Central Catholic sophomore Katharine Duren blasted to a 14.23 at MIAA Div. 2 and should be challenging the MIAA meet record on Saturday. Sharon's Jada Johnson was runner-up last year and at Saturday's Div. 2 behind Duren and is at 14.47. Also at or under 14.80 are last year's bronze medalist Jayla Kitchings of Haverhill, Westborough's Grace Desmond, both of whom were division winners, and Andover freshman Jodi Parrott.

400m Hurdles

Meet Record: 59.92     Last Year's Winner:  Elise O'Leary (Milton) 1:02.28

Tewksbury sophomore Makayla Paige has had an all-around spectacular year and leads the state rankings in three events, two of which she will doing at MIAA All-State. Paige will be the favorite in the 400H on Saturday after winning the MIAA E Div. 3 race in 1:01.61. She should get a battle from Old Rochester's Meg Hughes who won MIAA E Div. 4 in 1:02.19 and that race's runner-up Mackenzie Condon of Marthas Vineyard.
