Countdown: No. 17, Charles Wins Epic HJ At States

As expected, this was an extremely difficult task. With so many to chose from, we have come up with a list of what we consider the top 20 performances of the outdoor track & field season. We rank them in order, beginning with No. 20 and finishing with No. 1.

Countdown: No. 17, Charles Wins Epic HJ At States

Milton junior Smith Charles is one of our most versatile athletes, producing national-caliber performance in the jumping events and the sprints. At the All State Meet this season, Charles has his typical stellar afternoon, winning the long and high jump titles. In both events, he achieved PR performances. He won the long jump with a leap of 23-9.5.  But it was his effort in the high jump that really caught our eye. In a classic duel with Lowell's David Ajama, Charles earned gold with a height of 6-10. He won the title based on fewer misses as Ajama also had a near seven-footer with a 6-10 best.
