In the next few weeks, MileSplit MA will feature the top athletes to keep an eye on this indoor track and field season with our Athletes to Watch feature.
Mitchell, who has been one of our state's best in the middle-distance events the last few years, earned a well-served victory in the 1,000-meter run at last year's All State Meet, her first individual title. The Milton standout is coming off a successful cross-country season where she finished third overall at the All State Championships. Mitchell ran a best of 2:54 for the 1K and should be hovering near the low 2:50 range, possibly faster this winter. The Providence College-bound runner is also among several returnees that have cracked five minutes for the mile. She ranks No. 2 in the state behind Natick's Grace Connolly with her 4:56 best, a time she has potential to improve on substantially this winter.
