Djero Breaks State 100m Mark At New England's

Donatien Djero came a lean away from a victory in the 100-meter dash at Saturday's New England Championships. But the consolation prize still proved valuable as the Central High senior established a new state record with his runner-up time of 10.49 seconds. Winning the race was Davonte Burnett of Needham (MA), who was timed in an all-time best of 10.48. Djero broke the 2010 record of 10.55, set by former La Salle Academy great Kadeem Kushimo.

Djero was also second in the 200m where he was timed in 21.57. The Knight standout also ran a leg on the school's second-place 4x100m relay squad that finished with a time of 42.08. Central's Gus Karweh was second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 9 inches.

In the 4x800m relay, East Greenwich finished third overall in a state-leading 7:49.93. The quartet, which last week won the overall title at the State Meet, was comprised of Cebastian Gentil, Quentin Viera, Dante Posseda and Kyle Martinez.
