Performance List

As the name indicates, the MSTCA Last Chance To Qualify Meet is the final meet for athletes to make the standards in their particular event (or events) for the upcoming state championships. But this Saturday's competition, which will be LIVE STREAMED by MileSplit MA, is also a chance for athletes that have already qualified to improve on their seed times/distances or earn qualifying standards in additional events.

We took a glance through the performance list and there are several events that should generate some excitement inside the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center this weekend.

  • In the boys' 600-meter run, three runners have dipped under 1:25 this season. Phillip Magre of Somerville is the top seed with a best of 1 minutes, 24.10 seconds. But it looks like Magre will be challenged right down to the final straightaway. Close behind is Robert Roosa of Lincoln-Sudbury (1:24.19) and Sam Oomen-Lotchefield of Hingham (1:24.20).
  • The girls' 600m is separated by less than a second between a trio of talented runners - Sharon's Ariadre Tolay (1:39.26), Woburn's Kelsey Long (1:39.34) and Plymouth North's Elizabeth Marshall (1:40.09).
  • Five competitors have leaped further than 21 feet in the long jump. The No. 1 seed is Max Shirikjian of Silver Lake. Also in the field is Sharon's Juvan Elisma (21-3.25), Case's Jase Garner (21-3), Concord-Carlisle's Christian Mitchell (21-2.5) and Barnstable's Cam Donoghue (21-0.5).
  • Adja Sackor of Worcester Tech is the clear-cut favorite in the girls' long jump. She'll be looking to improve on her best of 19-2.5, a distance that's tied for No. 7 in the country.
  • Colin McCabe of Dartmouth will also be focusing on moving up in the national rankings. He owns  a state best of 57-10, which is No. 22 in the country. An improvement of one foot would currently increase his ranking by eight placements.
  • As John Carroll remind us, the girls' mile is also a race to watch. Milton's Collette O'Leary, a 2:11 half-miler, is the top seed with a 5:07 best. There's also Caroline Barry, who last week captured the Large School mile at the Coaches Invitational in 5:11. There's also Milton's Elise O"Leary, who has 2:15 speed for 800m and Newton South's Katherine Collins, a second-place finisher to Barry last week with a 5:14 effort.
  • Don't forget, Saturday's meet concludes with the Sprint Medley Relay, an event that is generally not run at meets. It will strictly be used for a qualifier for the New Balance Nationals next month.
