Wellesley Boys, Tewksbury Girls are Clipper Relay Champions !

   The 17th Annual Clipper Relays took place at beautiful Maudsley State Park in Newburyport.  This has always been a great way to kick the season off as some of the states best teams and individuals were in attendance.  The race consists of a six mile relay race made of teams of three runners. It's a perfect way to open the season as many coaches get to enjoy this non traditional meet, as they get a glimpse at how much progress their athletes made over the long hot 

Tewksbury High school captured Top honors for the girls meet. The team of Rachel Sessa, Emily Sessa, and Lauren Polimeno ran 35:53. The Sessa sisters are former soccer players that are making the transition on to a very strong cross country team. The Tewksbury girls finished a strong 3rd place in last years All State Finals. The Redman return six of the Top 7 runners from the 2015 team. 

"The girls had an amazing summer and are really, really fit!  We'll see where it goes, but we're all really excited." said Coach Peter Malloy

Last years winner Beverly High School finished 2nd place with a time of 35:53.

The boys race featured a nice early low key battle between two powerhouse programs.  

The top three boys teams broke the old course record of 30:02. The team of Ben Matejka, Sam Gillman, Thomas Weiss from Wellesley took home top honors establishing a new record clocking in at 29:31.  The defending All State Champions from Lowell displayed their usual depth as they placed three teams in the top 10 (2nd, 3rd, and 7th). Chris Polanco (9:38 split),  Chris Galarza, Colin Fitzpatrick of Lowell finished second with a time of 29:36, The Lowell "B" team of Anthony Rodriguez, Connor Donovan, and  Martin Mangai  finished third in 29:54.

Marcelo Rocha of Peabody crushed the first leg with an approximate time of 9:25.
