Here are the Rhode Island athletes who have declared for next weekend's New England Championship at the Reggie Lewis Track in Roxbury, Mass. The non-scoring meet begins at 1 p.m. with field events; running to commence at 1:30.
Returning New England meet athletes
At last year's New Englands, La Salle's Eliza Rego won the imperial mile run at 4:52.83 (= 4:31.3 @ 1500). Meaghan Scullin, of Cumberland, placed fifth in the long jump, and May Stern - a multi-event winner at this year's State Championship - finished 11th in the 600 meters.
For the boys last year, La Salle's Matt Bouthillette clocked 4:17.25 (= 3:58.0 @ 1500) to win the mile. The Rams' Jack Salisbury placed sixth in the 1000. Central's Donatein Djero came in eighth in the dash, while Barrington's Mars Bishop finished tenth in the 600.
Oval Note: The weight throw is not contested at this meet. The New England Weight Throw Championship will be held on 1 March, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Providence PCTA facility.
