Former Bishop Hendricken star Brian Doyle, a Providence College senior, turned in an exceptional performance at Friday's second annual Boston College Invitational Coast-to-Coast Battle at Franklin Park.
Competing with the likes of national power Oregon in the field, Doyle finished third overall with a time of 24 minutes, 27 seconds for the eight-kilometer course. The onetime Hawk standout and son of the late great RI marathoner Bobby Doyle, was just seven seconds behind individual winner and last year's NCAA champion Edward Cheserek of Oregon. The Kenyan-born sophomore was just inches ahead of Northeastern transfer and teammate Eric Jenkins, who was also timed in 24:20.
Liv Westhal of Boston College captured the women's race with a time of 16:30 for the 6K race. Former Peabody All-American and current PC sophomore Catarina Rocha was 13th overall with a time of 17:23.
