Salisbury, Berkson, Barrington 4x800 strike gold

Three gold medals were achieved by Rhode islanders at Saturday's New England Championship at the Regiie Lewis Athletic Center.

La Salle Academy sophomore Jack Salisbury came back from seventh place midway into the race to capture the mile run. Salisbury clocked a personal best time of 4 minutes, 17.5 seconds. He held off Framington (CT) senior Matt Chisholm, who was second at 4:18.17.

In the 1.000-meter run, Classical senior Maddy Berkson pushed the pace hard from the start and won her third straight title with a new meet record and PB of 2:49.29. Berkson broke her old record of 2:49.32, set last year.

The Barrington quartet of senior Abby Livingston, senior Megan Verner-Crist, senior Julianni Portelli and senior Mary Kate Coogan combined for the nation's third fastest time in the 4x800 relay with a 9:09.59 clocking. La Salle was second at 9:19.76. The Eagles' Livingston solidified the win with a 2:10 anchor leg.
