Southern Stars Inv. - Brasovan and Franklin Win Sep 30, 2007

Ashley Brasovan and Joseph Franklin won their respective races Saturday at the Southern Stars Invitational, but not without a challenger.  Kayla Hale challenged Brasovan much of the way, showing why she is a Foot Locker contender as well, while Kyle Cooke gave Franklin all he could handle.  Read FLRunners.com's Jason Byrne's report on what took place.

Lake Braddock girls 2nd at Southern Stars Inv in Florida Sep 30, 2007

The Lake Braddock girls (pictured above by Jason Byrne of flrunners.com) finished a respectable second place at the Southern Stars Invitational on Saturday night in Tampa, Florida as the US #20 squad suffered a mild upset over a very strong Lourdes squad from Florida, who had defeated a previous nationally ranked squad in Episcopal of Florida earlier in the season. Still not at full strength as team with Christine Moore and others not competing, Lake Braddock still put their top five under 20 minutes with sophomores Kelly Hagan (15th, 19:10) and Amanda Parker (18th, 19:22) leading the way by taking 20 individual finishes. Many of Florida's top teams were present as the Lady Bruins competed in a top division of 20 schools. Rounding out their top five were senior Erin Landy (21st, 19:26), senior Anna Corrigan (23rd, 19:26), and junior Nadeen Khoury (44th, 19:54). As flrunners.com's Jason Byrne described the race, "It was a battle for who had the best pack all the way and it was hard to tell from watching the race." It Was An Amazing Night Under the Stars... Sep 30, 2007

There were some fun times, great performances, and big upsets!  Ashley Brasovan won the Girls Stars division as expected with Kayla Hale in tow much of the way.  Fiesty Brittany Koziara did her best to hang on and did ride their wake into the 17 minute club as predicted.  The big story in the Girls Stars race though was Our Lady of Lourdes upset national ranked #20 Lake Braddock of Virginia.  It was a battle for who had the best pack all the way and it was hard to tell from watching the race.  But when the results were tabulated it was Lourdes on top!In the boys race it was favorite Joseph Franklin returning to Tallahassee victorious once again.   Kyle Cooke pushed the pace for a while but faded a bit toward the end.  Connor Revord fought hard with a shoulder to shoulder battle for the finish over Matt Mizereck of Leon.  Good thing he did!  They  needed the points!  Tampa Jesuit and Bishop Kenny TIED for the lead and it was Blake Lopez, Jesuit's 6 man, giving them the win!  Yes, I said BK.    They had a really great night with Leon and Miami Columbus within striking distance.  The top four teams were within 20 points of each other.More to come.  900+ Photos.  Complete results and coverage.  Video on Monday.

Lake Braddock headed to FL's Southern Stars Invite Sep 24, 2007

The Lake Braddock team with their US #20 ranked squad will be flying down to Tampa, Florida this weekend for the Southern Stars Invitational as the Bruins will face many of Florida's best teams and individuals. It will be Lake Braddock's second meet in a row under the lights after taking this past weekend off and running in the Brentsville Relays on September 15th. Coach Mike Mangan had hoped to have his girls face off against another nationally ranked squad in US #24 Episocpal, but they will be attending another meet. However, Lake Braddock still may be facing the best team in Florida as Ladies of Lourdes defeated Episcopal two weeks ago and will be present at the Southern Stars Invite. A win over Ladies of Lourdes and the rest of the field at Southern Stars would reaffirm Lake Braddock's national ranking and strengthen NTN hopes. More...
