MSTCA Coaches Invitational 2013

Newton North's Gabe Montague felt sluggish and fatigued like he knew he would. Gearing up for the EMass championships next Saturday, the Bay State Conference champion had been putting the work in and training through races so feeling less than 100% was to be expected. So when Montague stomped past the opening mile in 4:52 of yesterday's Div. 1 Junior/Senior race at the State Coaches Cross Country Invitational at the Wrentham Developmental Center, the fatigue was to be expected.

The 38th Annual State Coaches Invitational took place at Wrentham Developmental Center yesterday. Many Coaches take the weekend off and prepare their athletes for next weekend , while others utilize this oppurtnity for a final tuneup and another chance to race on the Wrentham Course before the big day.  That being said we had some fine performaces coming out of the yesterdays meet.  Dominick Catalina of Danvers ran the second fastest 5k time this year for the girls running 18:01 and winning the Division 2 Race. Another North Shore runner  Karina Shepard of Dracut turned in her personal best time running 18:16, she won the Division 1 Division. The Boys competition was dominated by the Newton North tandem of  Gabe Montague (15:30) and Mike Schlichting (15:37) , they finished 1st and 2nd in the Division 1 race. Jamison Koeman (16:10)  of Whitinsville Christian was the fastest small school runner of the day.
