Audrey Gould and Alex Niemiec win at Division II state meet Feb 17, 2012

Amherst Regional High School's Audrey Gould and Chicopee Comprehensive's Alex Niemiec went to the Division II state meet looking to do one thing: win. Winning at the state level isn't easy/ Gould, however, made it look easy, while Niemiec saved his best for last. (via highschoolsports.masslive.com)

Femmel sizzles in 600 to win state title Feb 17, 2012

The day was just like any other race day for Laurie Femmel: wake up, go to class, get on the bus, run at the Reggie Lewis Center. Just like her day, once she stepped foot on the track, she knew exactly what would happen. “I’m nervous before every race,” said the unassuming Femmel. “This really wasn’t any different.” Only, it was. Division 2 Indoor Championships Highlights Feb 16, 2012

North Attleboro was slowly chipped away at their lead of NDA behind the solid performances of Nicole Sarkis (3rd in the 600m), Samantha Kroll (3rd in the 300m) and Sydney Bennett (3rd in the 55m hurdles).  The end result was a one point win for North Attleboro over NDA, 39 to 40. On the boys’ side, Mansfield and Marshfield traded shots, but the Mansfield sprinters combined for relays that were just too much for Marshfield to overcome.  In the end, Mansfield would create a six point gap to take home another Division 2 Championship.

Division Champions 1918 to 2011: Who's next? Feb 16, 2012

Chuck Martin has compiled every division champion since 1918. Equally impressive to the list itself are the teams that were able to string together multiple consecutive championships.  St. John’s put together six in a row from 1957 to 1962.  The Newton South girls and Mansfield girls are both sitting on three consecutive championships.  Can they make it four this week?
