McClintock hits US#1 for 3k @GBTC Invitational

GBTC Invitational

Results

Several Maine athletes competed in the GBTC Invitational on Sunday at Harvard & produced some excellent times/distances in their respective events. The highlight was Matt McClintock running in his first indoor race of his HS career dropped a 8:38.92 for 3k to win the event, and set a new US#1 performance at the distance. McClintock decided to try a different racing strategy than his usual front running style,  "I sat in 3rd until the last 4 laps then a guy put on a surge and I followed him into second for a lap and a half and then kicked away with 500M to go."  Matt will run in a PVC meet this coming weekend in attempt to get state indoor meet qualifiers, he is now affiliated with Foxcroft Academy.

Also the Mt. Ararat 4x440yd team meet the New Balance Indoor Nationals Emerging Elite standard with their impressive 3:29.57 performance, highlighted by a 50.8 leg from McKenzie Gary.
