CHRISTINE DAVIS

Acton-Boxboro

Runner of the Year

Davis has made the Sun team all three years of her high school career and she continues to pile on amazing accomplishments.

As a junior captain, she was named the team’s MVP after breaking the home course record for 2.8 miles with a time of 17:03, while she went on to finish second at the Dual County League Championship, third at the Division 1 EMass. race and sixth at the All-State Meet with a time of 18:59. She also placed third at the Ocean State Invitational earlier in the season.

A member of the National Honor Society, Davis is also a key member of the Colonial’s indoor and outdoor track teams.

SIERRA ZAMBARANO

Acton-Boxboro

A senior captain, Zambarano was given the team’s Coaches Award for her excellent leadership on and off the courses. She helped A-B finish 6-2 during the regular season including a third place finish in the DCL Meet. Individually she placed 15th at the DCL Meet and 26th overall at the Division 1 Eastern Mass. Meet with a time of 20:40.

Zambarano is also a three-sport athlete at A-B, participating in indoor and outdoor track, as well as being a member of the school’s National Honor Society. She is undecided about her college plans.

ALLI WOOD

Chelmsford

Just a sophomore, Wood continues to explode on the Merrimack Valley Conference scene whether it’s in cross-country or track. As the team’s No. 1 runner, she helped lead the Lions to a 9-1 record, including winning the MVC Championship Meet as well as taking third in the Eastern Mass. Division 2 Meet and sixth at the Division 1 All-State Meet.

Individually, Wood placed fourth at the MVC Meet at 19:23 which gave her MVC All-Conference honors, while she also finished seventh at the EMass. Meet at 19:46 and 21st at the All-State Meet at 19:37. She was one of seven girls named to the first MSTCA All Academic All State Division 1 Cross Country Team.

SARAH BURKE

Bishop Guertin

Burke, a junior from Tyngsboro, dominated the cross-country scene for the Cardinals. As a captain, Burke helped Guertin win the N.H. Division 1 Championship title, finish third at the Meet of Champions and fourth at the New England Meet.

Burke was the team’s top runner at the Catholic Memorial Invitational taking fifth overall at 19:40, then she went on to take seventh at the N.H. Division 1 Championship, ninth at the Meet of Champions and was the 11th New Hampshire finisher at the New England Meet, where she was clocked at 19:43.

A spring and winter track star as well, Burke was named a New Hampshire Division 1 All-Star.

MEGAN MAHONEY

Billerica

Mahoney had a very respectable regular season, helping the Indians finish 6-4 overall and finishing 11th as an individual at the Merrimack Valley Conference Championship Meet. Then she had a breakthrough performance by finishing fifth at the Eastern Mass. Division 2 Meet with a personal best time of 19:43, which advanced her to the All-State Meet.

A three-season runner at BMHS with indoor and outdoor track, Mahoney was the cross country team’s MVP and one of the team’s captains. In addition to her athletic skills, she is also a four-year member of the school’s orchestra. She will be attending UMass Lowell with plans of majoring in physical therapy.

KERRI KEOHANE

Tyngsboro

This freshmen led Tyngsboro to its first-ever Central Mass. Championship title, as well as an eighth place finish at the All-State Meet. Keohane had a tremendous regular season with first place finishes at the Battle of the Border, Brown University and MSCTA freshmen races and a second at the Ocean State freshmen race.

In addition to that, she was named a Mid-Wach League All-Star when she finished fourth at the League’s Championship Meet, then went on to take second place at the Central Mass. Championship Meet running a 17:50 clip, helping the team to its first place title. She ended her season with a 33rd place finish at All-State Division 2 race.

Keohane is an excellent student as well, taking many honors and AP classes.

CHAPEL GUARNIERI

North Middlesex

Guarnieri had a very solid season for North Middlesex competing out of the Mid-Wach A Division. During the regular season she had strong performances at the Quabbin Invitational taking fifth, and at the Manchester and Brown Invitationals taking 38th and 39th, respectively.

The junior carried that success into the post-season where she placed sixth at the league championship meet, 11th at the Central Mass. Meet and 40th at the Division 1 All-State Meet. She finished with a time of 18:57 at the Central Mass. Meet in Gardner and then 20:03 at the All-State Meet at Franklin Park.

GRACE NDUNGU

Lowell

Ndungu started the season off as the team’s third runner and emerged not only as Lowell’s best runner by season’s end, but one of the state’s top performers. After respectable finishes at the Manhattan Invitational (10th), Catholic Memorial Invitational (17th) and Ocean State Invitational (21st), Ndungu took third at the MVC Meet at 19:16, fourth at the EMass. Division 1 race and 10th at the All-State Meet, coming in at 19:20 which was the best performance by any LHS runner in the past 20 years.

All of that helped Lowell finish in second place at the Division 1 Meet — the best finish in LHS history — third place at the MVC Meet and 10th place at the All-State Championships. Ndungu will attend UMass Lowell and continue her running career with the River Hawks.

BRYANNA ALLISON

Lowell

A very impressive student-athlete, Allison was beaten just twice throughout the entire regular season and was named a Merrimack Valley All-Conference selection. The junior helped Lowell finish with a 7-3 overall record which included a third place finish at the MVC Championship Meet, a program-best second place finish at the EMass. Division 1 Meet and a 10th place finish at the All-States. In those races she finished 7th at MVCs (19:36), 8th at EMass. (19:45) and 22nd at All-States (19:39).

Besides cross-country, Allison is a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams where she holds the school record in the mile with a 5:13 time. In the classroom, she maintains a GPA of 3.6.

ERIN DONOVAN

Lowell

Donovan continues to enjoy a tremendous career at LHS, which included going 9-1 during the regular season as well as taking sixth at the Manhattan Invitational and seventh at the Ocean State Meet. In the post-season, she finished sixth at the MVC Meet to earn All-Conference honors with a time of 19:34 and helped the Red Raiders finish third as a team. At Franklin Park, she finished 23rd at the EMass. Division 1 Championships, helping the team finish second overall, the best finish in the history of the program.

On top of that she was named the co-MVP of the team, holds the Shedd Park cross-country course record, and is also a key member of the indoor and outdoor track teams.

TIA CALDWELL

Westford Academy

Caldwell, a senior captain, was a very consistent performer for the Grey Ghosts all season, always finishing in the top four or five overall during regular season meets, then placing first in the final meet and establishing a Westford Academy course record of 18:45 for three miles.

She went on to take 16th at the Dual County League Championship Meet, before finishing ninth at the Division 2 Eastern Mass. Meet and 64th at the All-States. Caldwell was also named a DCL All-Star and the team’s MVP.

CALLIE O’CONNELL

Wilmington

Just an eighth grader, O’Connell made a huge impact for the Wildcats this season. She finished the regular season with a 4-2 record in the very competitive Middlesex League and then finished fourth at the ML Championship Meet with a time of 15:52 for 2.8 miles. For that accomplishment, she was named a Middlesex League All-Star.

Thereafter, O’Connell kept up that success by taking eighth at the Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet with a time of 20:36, which earned her a spot at the All-State Meet, becoming the first girl in the past 15 years of the program to reach that elite status. There she finished 64th at the Division 2 race with a time of 20:48.

LIZZIE McDERMOTT

Austin Prep

A junior from Wilmington, McDermott’s top highlight of her campaign was a big one, as she won the Catholic Central League Championship Meet with a time of 19:54. She carried that success over to the post-season meets where she finished second at the Eastern Mass. Division 6 race with a time of 19:42 and then was 41st at the Division 2 All-State Meet.

Besides cross-country, McDermott is also a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams, participating in mostly the distance events, for Austin Prep.

MEGAN RATCLIFFE

Concord-Carlisle

A talented runner who participates in cross-country and indoor and outdoor track, Ratcliffe, a junior, was named a Dual County League All-Star after finishing ninth at the league’s championship meet with a time of 19:11. Two weeks later, she put in a tremendous performance at the Eastern Mass. Division 3 Meet by finishing third and went on to take 24th at the Division 2 All-State Meet, also at Franklin Park.

A member of the National Honor Society, Ratcliffe runs anything from the 800 to the 2- mile for the C-C track teams, and was a member of the distance medley relay team which advanced to the Nationals last year.

KEITH O’BRIEN

Tyngsboro

Coach of the Year

Despite the fact the majority of his team was comprised of middle school runners, O’Brien led the Tigers to a 9-1 regular-season record, a second place finish at the Mid-Wach C Championship Meet, a Central Mass. Division 2 Championship title, and an eighth place finish at the Division 2 All-State Meet.

O’Brien, a teacher in Tyngsboro for 12 years, has been the boys and girls cross country coach for the past 10 years, winning EMass. titles in 2001 and 2003. He graduated from Chelmsford High in 1982, after being a three-sport athlete in cross-country, winter and spring track and he did the same three sports when he attended Holy Cross, graduating in 1986.

He credits assistant coaches Lauren Eynation, Joe Vail and Dan Houston for the team’s success.
