Shaylah Simpson; 13-2.25 - Pole Vault State Record!

 Shaylah Simpson (SR., Desert Vista) reached new heights at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston over the weekend.  Simpson who went into the meet with a PR of 12-9.75, a personal best height she achieved at the 5A I Outdoor State Meet last meet.  But on Sunday Simpson's US#3 pole vault jump of 13-2.25 not only gave her a new PR but the "Arizona All Time State Record" previously set in 2003 by April Kubishta (13-0.25) from Lake Havasu. 

 
Simpson made the 13-2.25 jump on her third try placing 2nd in the event. 
 
Also making the trip to boston and placing in the top ten was pole vaulter Courtney Reginato (Sr., Desert Vista) who placed 7th with a jump of 11-8.50.
 
 
Chandler's Hannah Carson (JR) finished 10th in the Hepathlon with 3023 points.  Carson earned her points by winning the shot put with a throw of 41-05.00 (about 5 inches longer than 2nd place); taking 2nd in the High Jump with a jump of 5-05.75;  6th place in the 60 meter hurdles (9.40); 11th place in the long jump (16-03.25) and 25th place in the 800 meter run.
 
 
Dylan Walashek (Sr.,  Boulder Creek), took 10th in the Pentathlon with 3289 points.  Walashek earned some of his points by winning the High Jump with a jump of 6-08.75;  placing 3rd in the shot put throwing a distance of 42-05.25;  finishing 16th in the 60 meter high hurdles in 9:23; and placing 15th in the long jump, jumping 19-04.00.
