Former Newburyport standout NIck Carleo, a Providence College senior, clocked a near personal best of 4 minutes, 2.61 seconds in the High Performance Mile of the Adrian Martinez Classic on Thursday night. Carleo's effort earned him a runner-up finish in the race, won by Charlie Marquaret in 4:00.38.
Garrett O'Toole, onetime star at the Middlesex School and a recent Princeton graduate, was 12th overall in the featured race with a time of 4:03.30.
St. John's Prep's Tristan Shelgren finished second in the Open Mile with a time of 4:16.54. Finishing third overall was Brookline's Lucas Aramburu in 4:18.57.
