MIAA All State Girls' Running Events' Preview

Sprints

Could we have a sweep of the sprinting events by Chloe Alfieri? It could happen. The Bromfield School senior is our top seed in both the 100m and 200m dashes and always shows up with her 'A' game, especially when it comes to crunch time. Alfieri clocked PRs in both her specialties at the recent Western/Central Division 2 meet where she was timed in 12.22 for 100m and 24.49 for 200m. In the shorter race, she'll face a quality field that includes Milton sophomore Jayda Dillon, who looked very strong at the recent Eastern Division 3 meet where she won the 100m and 200m and clocked 57 seconds for her team's 4x400m relay. Dillon ran her best of 12.34 at the divisionals. The race will also feature Mansfield's Amanda Mangano (12.41), Peabody's Jolene Murphy (12.43), Natick's Abigail Gerdes (12.46) and 55m indoor state titlist Kyla Hill of Springfield Central (12.51).

Look for the 200m dash to be hotly contested coming down the final straightaway. Alfieri will toe the line with two other sprinters that have clocked a time under 25 seconds - Andover's Delia Barbanti (24.85) and Wellesley's Anna Jordahl-Henry (24.93). Barbanti and Jordahl-Henry, who won this race at the Loucks Games early this month, were our 1-2 finishers at the Eastern Division 1 meet. Oakmont's Alyssa Madden (25.11), Natick's Abigail Gerdes (25.12) and Hill  (25.22) are also capable of top podium finishes.

The 400m dash is a sophomore-laden field. Five of our top six seeds are tenth-graders, led by the trio of Wellesley's Abby Comella (55.65, Beverly's India Ingemi (56.94) and Shepherd Hill's Madison Marsh (57.00).Comella, who was third in this event last year, is the favorite here. She raced to her PR by winning Loucks a few weeks ago. She'll be aiming to win her second individual title in as many seasons. In February, he won the 600m crown.
