New York Relays Features Top RI Hammer Throwers


Rhode Island will have the weekend off in terns of invitationals meets, but athletes competing in the hammer throw are well-represented at the New York Relays.

The two-day meet, held at Ichan Field, begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday. 

The hammer is one of four field events that will be held on opening day. Among the competitors, the Ocean State will feature some of its top competitors in both the boys' and girls' competition. Ponaganset's Gianna Rao is one of the top seeds in the girls event. She is currently ranked No. 4 in the country with her season-best toss of 168 feet, 5 inches. Toll Gate's Voski Armenakyan is also in the field with her best of 152-7. Lincoln's Garrett Doyle (207-8) and Classical's Jacob Furland (206-2) are a few of the leading contenders for the boys.
