The Needham standout came mere strides from going under 21 seconds at the AAU District Qualifier on June 11, breaking the tape in 21.01, a time that matches the effort of Smith at the All State Meet in 2006. Burnett also ran 21.36 to win at All States and ran 21.57 in his preliminary heat at the New Balance Nationals, a race he placed seventh overall in the finals with a time of 21.86. Like the 100m, this is a record that could be attained by Burnett with the right kind of competition and conditions.
