Division State Meet Previews: It's Gonna Be Fun! (Updated)

Division 5 - Thursday

The meet record in the girls' 300m dash has a good chance at getting eclipsed on Thursday. Toeing the line is the meet record-holder, Oakmont's Alyssa Madden, who was timed in 40.30 in 2017.  Madden is the No. 3 seed in the event this year with her best of 41.18. She will have to show up with her 'A' game and perhaps a little more to upset the speedster that ranks No. 1 - Bromfield School's Chloe Alfieri. Alfieri is the only runner in the state to break 40 seconds this season for the 300m when she sizzled to a winning time of 39.18 at the Coaches Invitational last month.  Alfieri is also favored in the 55m dash with her best of 7.31. Amesbury teammates Caroline Schissel and Skylar Snay are not too far behind with identical 7.37 clockings.

Oakmont's John Caouette and Watertown's Mange Caman are the leading contenders in the boys' sprinting events with the chances likely for a 1-2 finish in both events. Who breaks the tape is anybody's guess? Caouette appears to hold an edge in the short dash with his best of 6.43 to Caman's 6.59. In the 300m, Caman is the No. 1 seed with his 34.95 best. Caouette is just a stride or two behind with a seed time of 35.04. The Oakmont senior is also the top seed in the long jump with a distance of 21-feet even to his credit.

Dover-Sherborn's Erik Linden looks to be the clear-cut favorite in the 1K and the mile. His seed time of 2:33.56 for the shorter event is nearly two seconds faster than his next rival. It's even better in the mile with a five-second differential based on his top time of 4:24.82.

The girls' 1,000m could come down to the final straightway with Lynnfield's Kate Mitchell (2:55.20) and Littleton's Sarah Roffman (2:56.66) far ahead of the field. The question is will Roffman be utilized more to garner points for her team in their quest for a title? She's the overwhelming favorite in the mile (5:04.45) and the two mile (10:46.41), too. Littleton should secure 10 more points in the 4x800 relay. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 2 in the entire state with their best of 9:30.17, a comfortable 38-seconds ahead of their closest competitor.

The shot put events will feature two of our state's best, Innovation Academy's Aiden Felty (57-4.75) and Seekonk's Cameron Garabian (42.-8). Felty is ranked No. 1 in MA, Garabian is No. 2 for girls.
