Shelgren Gets It Done At Foot Locker Regionals

Four runners from the Bay State area will be heading to their respective national meets in the coming weeks.

St. John's Prep's Tristan Shelgren captured the individual title at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park with a winning time of 15 minutes, 32.8 seconds. Just five seconds behind Shelgren in third place was Brookline's Lucas Aramburu, who was timed in 15:37.8.. Both MA runners advanced to the nationals in San Diego on Dec. 9 based on their top-10 finishes.

In the girls' race, Littleton's Sarah Roffman was the top local finisher, placing 13th overall in 18:46.0. Natick's Grace Connolly, one of the pre-race favorites, was up with the leaders for most of the race but suffered a fall in the late stages and was unable to finish.

At the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast (NXN-NE) Regionals, Newton North's Andrew Mah and Wellesley's Maggie Donahue earned a trip to Portland, Oregon next weekend for the nationals based on their top-five finishes. Mah placed third overall with a time of 16:03.20. Donahue was a runner-up in the girls' race where she crossed the line at 18:34.6.
