Massachusetts Cross-Country Runners To Watch: Thomas Lingard, Lexington High

Thomas Lingard, Lexington High

Here's a runner that's certainly capable of making some noise this season. The Minutemen senior was one of just eight harriers to break 16 minutes at the Eastern Divisional State Meets, finishing fourth overall in the Div. 1 race with a time of 15:50.19. He was seventh at the All State Meet, securing a first-team selection. Lingard was also fourth at the Bay State Championship and took seventh in the Championship race of the Ocean State Invitational.

One of the highlights of the Lexington standout's junior year occurred during the indoor track season where he captured the individual title in the 1,000-meter run at the All State Finals. Just a week prior, he ran the nation's ninth fastest time to win the Eastern Division 1 meet with a personal best of 2:29.61. Lingard's also a sub 4:20 miler, finishing among the top five in the state the last two years and clocking a best of 4:18.34 at the outdoor states this past June.

Lingard is an experienced runner, who consistently peaks when the time is right. Look for him to be battling up front at Eastern Divisionals and All States with the ability to improve substantially on his current 5K best.
