It appears the summer cross-country training has been going well for a few Bay Staters.
Natick High junior Grace Connolly established a new meet record on Saturday night, winning the girls' title at the annual Thomas Cochary Mile in Falmouth with a time of 4 minutes, 56.33. She edged last year's champion and Tewksbury Memorial senior Rachel Sessa, who was timed in 4:56.55. Recent Newton South grad and multiple state champion Clare Martin finished third in 4:59.84. All three runners went under the MR of 5:02.49, set by Stella Worters in 2014.
In the boys' race, Wrentham native Mike Griffin, a soon-to-be sophomore at King Philip, won a nail-biter over St. John Prep senior Tristan Shelgren with a time of 4:26.08. Shelgren crossed the line in 4:26.38. Plymouth North senior Nick McNamee was third in 4:29.29.
