Rhode Island Cross-Country Runners To Watch: Joseph dos Reis, La Salle Academy

Joseph dos Reis, La Salle Academy

La Salle won its third straight team title last year and the now junior was one of the key runners that made it happen. He was one of three Ram runners among the top five in the championship meet, finishing fifth overall. He was also fifth at the Class A meet and ran a PB of 16:11 at the New England Championships.

The La Salle standout was one of our top distance runners on the track in 2016-17. He finished second in the 1.500m and 3.000m at the Outdoor State Meet, both times to All-American teammate DJ Principe. In both races, he ran bests of 4:03 and 8:47, respectively. He also clocked an all-time best of 4:19 for the mile, an effort that placed him fourth overall at the New England Indoor Championships.

Three-time defending champion La Salle is once again in the hunt for a team title this year and dos Reis and teammate Max DiMuccio have a legitimate chance to give the Rams a crucial 1-2 finish. With a devastating kick that he demonstrated so many times on the track last year, it will be tough to beat dos Reis if the race comes down to the final stretch.
