FAST Track Youths Qualify For Nationals


For the second time in the last three years, a few athletes from the FAST Track youth track & field club have qualified for the nationals.

The members of the Central Falls-based club earned their berths based on their performances at the recent Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships, held this past weekend in Fitchburg, Mass. In the age 13-14 division, Jamari Bell placed second in the 100-meter dash, took fourth in the 200m, and anchored the 4x100m to a third-place finish. A week earlier, Bell was the 100m and 200m champion and the lead-off leg for the 4x100m relay that also consisted of Warner Galva-Rodriguez, Henrique Duarte, and Deron Lopes. In the 11-12 girls' and boys' relay, both age groups defended their New England title by placing first again. Also, at the Region 1 meet, it was deja vu for the girls' 4x100m, which by placed third overall. The foursome consisted of Kiana McCarty, Pamela Galva-Liriano, Angelina Rivera, and Jaylin Fernandes.  In total, FAST Track has three relays and Bell, who qualified for the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic National Championship, to be held in Lawrence, Kansas, from July 24 to July 30.
