A. The highlight of my high career would definitely have to be winning the the 4x400m at the All-State Meet my senior year. I've been chasing that title for my entire career and it's crazy to think about how excited I was to break our school record indoor my freshman year at 3:34 and then how I was disappointed to run 3:18 this year because it didn't win us the New England title.
A. My most memorable performance was winning the 200m at the All-State Meet in 2016 because it was my first time winning a state title.
Q. What was your most difficult obstacle to overcome?
A. During my Junior indoor track season I had a nagging hip injury that kept me from getting the times I wanted, but I recovered and was able to claim a state title in 200m and that was very gratifying.
Q. What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A. My advice to younger athletes would simply be to find whatever is it that you love and work your hardest to be the best at it that you can be. If your passion happens to be sprinting and you want more specific advice feel free to hit me up on email: niksmith@bu.edu or social media IG: nkhsmith
A. I will miss my teammates and coaches the most. Each year it's saddening to watch the seniors leave and now it's even more so because I'm leaving all of my teammates who have had such a positive impact on my life and my coaches who I've considered mentors and friends.
A. This fall I will be attending Boston University as a mechanical engineering major and will be a member of the track and field team.
A. My coaches have always helped me improve on every part of my races and they are just generally fun to be around. In terms of life goals, I had no clue what I was doing when I first started track freshman year. Through years of training and development, my coaches helped me learn to live the sport and I would be the same athlete I am today if it weren't for them.
Q. Who would you like to say Thank You?
A. I'd like to say thank you to my mom, dad, Kamillah (older sister), Coach Palmer, Coach Angus, and all my teammates and friends throughout the years for motivating me to be the best I can be.
Favorite Food: My favorite food would have to be Jamaican jerk chicken, ain't nobody cook it up in the kitchen like my dad.
Favorite Movie: Forrest Gump, it's such a sad movie yet also fun and lighthearted at times and Forrest's obsession with running is really what seals the deal.(Fun Fact: my senior quote is from this movie)
Favorite Athlete: Usain Bolt, one word GOAT
Favorite Sport other than running: Football, I played soccer from age 4-14, but when I started high school I switched up and those four years were an unforgettable experience.
